Product description

Wood sculpture dedicated to Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, religious man of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, who in 2002 was proclaimed a saint by Pope John Paul II.

Padre Pio is carved with the talar clothing and gloves to cover hands and stigma, in the act of giving the blessing. Great attention has been paid to the depiction of the face, precise in every detail and very similar in features of the Saint.

Some hints on the life of Padre Pio: Padre Pio was born with the name Francesco Forgione on 25 May 1887 in Pietralcina, in the province of Benevento. Fra Pio was the name that he decided to take in 1904 and some years later, in 1910, was ordained as priest.

The event that marked the priestly life and the process of holiness was the occurrence of stigmata. Padre Pio arrived in the convent of San Giovanni Rotondo in 1916, where he remained until his death in 1968. In 1997 Pope John Paul II declared Padre Pio Venerable. On 2 May 1999 he was beatified in 2002 and finally Saint.
