Product description

Grape variety: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier

Deion: Bright yellow with topaz reflexes. The aroma is complex, reminiscent of acacia and lime blossom. On the palate the wine is full-flavoured, expressive and mellow, elegantly structured, tangy with excellent length. The wine will continue to develop and age for several years.

Vineyard site: Mazzon hillsides, a steep west-facing site near Kaltern at an elevation of 380 metres, as well as the manor of Lieben Aich at Terlan.

Soils: Clay with calcium carbonate and loess, while at Terlan the soils are characterised by sand and eroded porphyry.

Harvest period: Mid September

Winemaking: Fermentation takes place in 300 - 1,200 litre oak casks without selected yeasts, after which the wine is matured on the fine lees for 8 - 10 months before bottling. A four-month bottle refinement follows.

Serve: Lightly chilled, 11 - 13 °C

Best enjoyed: With shellfish and crustaceans, poultry, grilled or barbecued white meats and fish with strong flavour. Perfect partner for dishes with a pumpkin or garlic base, as well as with aromatic cheese.

"(2007) This blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, with a little Viognier, comes from steep, west-facing slopes at an altitude of around 380 metres. It is fermented in large oak casks, after which it matures for a further 10 months or so before bottling. It has a bright, green-tinged lemon colour, with arrestingly rich and honeyed aromas of oatmeal and acacia honey, with some nectarine and slightly candied, almost tropical fruit nuances. On the palate this has quite powerful concentration, with a robust chardonnay core that is quite dense and mouth-filling, though an edge of savoury, vibrant lemon and lime acidity pushes through. There is good fruit sweetness here, and plenty of intensity, yet the wine doesn't quite carry that level of interest through to the finish. A good and interesting wine and very stylish, though perhaps lacking a bit sharpness and ultimate complexity."
