VINIFICATION: Temperature-controlled fermentation and vinification in stainless steel tanks – aging in large wooden barrels.
COLOR: Bright yellow with greenish reflections
ABOUT THE WINE: The Kofl site is located near the hamlet of Penon on the steep mountainside above Kurtatsch. It is located on one of the region’s steepest slopes cultivated with vines, with well-drained calcareous-alluvial soils, ideal for the Sauvignon Blanc vine. Streams and rock-falls account for the complex soil composition which ranges eroded primary and sedimentary rock to medium rich soil with a high clay content. The site is exposed to strong sunlight which is mitigated by a regular afternoon wind the south and katabatic winds at night, factors which contribute to the wine’s intense varietal character, rich texture and fruity acidity. Like all fine Sauvignons the ‘Kofl’ is rather closed in its youth, though the wine’s concentration, elegance and backbone are immediately discernable. It is matured in oak on the fine lees which are regularly stirred up to enrich the wine with complexity and length. The spectrum of aromas ranges gooseberry to sage, elderflower and blackcurrant typical of the woods at Penon. In short, a spectacular Alpine wine!
